Ahead of the 2004–05 year, the Match consisted of one qualifying round, followed by a series of knockout rounds. The sixteen non-qualifiers from the ultimate qualifying round from the Champions League entered at the 1st spherical right; afterwards from the tournament, the survivors ended up joined by third-location finishers from the (first) team
